Moving Beyond Raw Runs and Wickets

In short-format cricket, a batter who scores a rapid 38 off 18 balls in a tense chase often has a greater match-winning impact than an opener who scores 45 off 48 balls. Similarly, a bowler who bowls 14 dot balls and concedes just 16 runs in 4 overs creates the pressure that produces wickets at the other end.

To recognize true all-round match impact, CricÓ uses a balanced, deterministic Player Points algorithm for every match and tournament.

1. Batting Points Breakdown

  • Base Runs: +1 point for every run scored.
  • Boundary Bonuses: +1 bonus point for every Four hit (total 5 pts per four) and +1 bonus point for every Six hit (total 7 pts per six).
  • Innings Milestones: +10 bonus points upon reaching 30 runs; +20 bonus points upon reaching 50 runs.
  • Strike Rate Impact (minimum 10 balls faced): +10 points for a Strike Rate of 150 or higher; +5 points for a Strike Rate between 120 and 149.99; −5 points if Strike Rate falls below 100.

2. Bowling Points Breakdown

  • Wickets: +25 points per wicket taken (excluding run-outs).
  • Dot Ball Pressure: +1 point for every legal dot ball bowled—rewarding bowlers who build pressure ball after ball.
  • Economy Rate Control: +10 bonus points for an Economy Rate under 6.00 RPO; +5 points for an Economy Rate between 6.00 and 7.50 RPO; −5 points if Economy Rate exceeds 10.00 RPO.

3. Fielding & Wicketkeeping Points

  • Catch Taken: +10 points per catch.
  • Direct or Assisted Run-Out: +15 points per run-out dismissal.
  • Stumping: +15 points per wicketkeeper stumping.

These points are aggregated automatically across every fixture in a tournament to crown the official Tournament MVP (Player of the Series) on the tournament leaderboard.
