Choosing the Right Tournament Structure

When organizing a local cricket tournament, the biggest constraint is balancing the number of participating teams against the number of ground slots and weekends available. CricÓ supports all four major tournament structures out of the box.

1. Single Knockout Format

Best suited for weekend festival tournaments with 8, 16, or 32 teams and limited ground time. A single loss eliminates a team immediately. An 8-team knockout requires only 7 total matches (4 quarterfinals, 2 semifinals, and 1 final).

2. Round-Robin League

In a Round-Robin tournament, every team plays every other team once. For N teams, the total number of league matches is N × (N − 1) ÷ 2. For example, a 6-team round-robin requires 15 league matches, rewarding consistency across the season and using Net Run Rate (NRR) to separate tied teams.

3. League + Knockout (Group Stage + Playoffs)

The gold standard for 8-to-12 team competitions. Teams are divided into two groups, play 3–4 guaranteed group games, and the top two teams from each group advance to the Semifinals and Grand Final. This guarantees every team multiple games while preserving high-stakes knockout drama at the end.

4. Automated Standings & Live Web Sharing

By linking each match to a Tournament ID in the CricÓ app, the web platform automatically updates the Points Table, calculates NRR to two decimal places, tracks Top Run-Scorers and Wicket-Takers, and generates shareable WhatsApp links for team captains and sponsors.
